after the technical bit…
Deep in the Welsh hills outside Hay on Wye is a small studio by a babbling stream. It was here I had the pleasure of working with Mark Harrell in his studio to take some photos of his paintings for an upcoming exhibition at The Table Gallery in Hay.
Taking photos of paintings can be quite tricky, as you want the colors to look just as they do in real life. After all, many art collectors make purchasing decisions based solely on a photo in the calalogue! To ensure accuracy, I always use a color checker card as a reference device during these shoots. Once we finished photographing the paintings, Mark and I took a break to enjoy a cuppa and I cheekily asked if I could snap a few shots of his studio and even of him. He kindly obliged!
The studio is due for some renovations soon, so I plan to return and capture some exterior shots as well. This way, Mark will have plenty of options to choose from when updating his new website. Plus, it gives me the perfect excuse to revisit this lovely little corner of the world again :)
